Recent reports indicate that less than half of university graduates lack appropriate skills and competencies that are linked to skills and competencies required by prospective employers. Further, some of the missing aspects in higher education graduates were: Lack of Practical Skills (“hands-on”); Critical Thinking; Communication and Interpersonal Skills; Leadership and Entrepreneurial Skills; Customer Care; and Poor Attitude towards Work. Majority of college and/or university graduates also did not show “strong” evidence of the following six core skills: Communication, Creativity, Leadership, Organization, Problem-Solving and Teamwork. Therefore, there is a critical need for educators to identify effective strategies to empower learners with higher-order skills and global competencies that could translate to their success in life and workplace.
