Prof. Joseph Ongeri is the Dean, School of Business.
Professor Joseph Dennis Ongeri won the prestigious “Excellence in Teaching Award 2012”, awarded by The South Carolina Independent Universities and Colleges.
He holds a Doctorate Degree in Adult Economic Education from Pennsylvania State University, a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Science in Economics from Purdue University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from The University of Nairobi.
He is an associate professor of Economics, and until his appointment as Dean was, Head of Economics Department at The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Nairobi. He has taught in the following institutions; University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Kenya College of Accountancy University, Harrisburg Area Community College, Pennsylvania, USA, Spartanburg Methodist College, South Carolina USA. His current engagements include; Economics Curriculum development at undergraduate, masters, and PHD programmes at CUEA. His research interest is in Applied Economics. He has participated in many internationally funded projects including; The African Higher Education Leadership In Advancing Inclusive Innovation for Development, (AHEAD) and The Kenya Municipal Program beneficiaries assessment project funded by the World Bank and USAID, where Prof. Ongeri was the lead person.
Prof. Ongeri has a wealth of experience in general applied economics, financial analysis, and economic development. He has worked on several projects as a research officer, lecturer, a research supervisor, internal and external University examiner in Economics at all levels. He has successfully guided 27 PhDs students and over 100 post graduate students in the field of Economics and Business Studies. He has more than 50 publications that includes articles in peer reviewed journals, books and chapters in edited books, selected conference papers and other scholarly assignments thus making a huge contribution to the knowledge of economics.
Prof. Ongeri has wealth of experience in management and administration. He has worked as Financial Business Analyst for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, a Contract Analyst at Hershey Medical Center and an Assistant Manager at Osco Drug - a pharmaceutical Company. Before leaving for the USA, Prof. Ongeri worked in the then Ministry of Planning as an Economist. He also worked as a Research Officer at Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI), where he regularly wrote industrial business report, performed feasibility studies for start-up industries, and general businesses.
