Wadhwani Foundation (WF) recently partnered with the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA)to build institutional capacity in entrepreneurship training among faculty across four local universities; in a bid towards establishing a robust entrepreneurial ecosystem within campuses. Other participating institutions included: University of Nairobi, United States International University, Mount Kenya University and Valley Business School.

The six-day Master Trainer Boot Camp program was conducted by Wadhwani Foundation’s National Entrepreneurship Network (NEN) initiative at CUEA Main campus on 2nd October-7thOctober 2017. The program aimed at providing participating members with the support, tools and network to enable them guide students to discover their entrepreneurial DNA and learn key concepts such as Design Thinking, Competition Analysis, Prototyping, Opportunity Discovery, Early Customer Insights, among others. The training empowered faculty members and made them more confident to assist and train students in online and campus activities geared towards building an entrepreneurial mind-set.
The training was convened and hosted by the department of Planning and Advancement, Dr. Sarah Kimani , Dean of School of Business, Dr. Joseph Ntale, in charge of the CUEA Business Incubation Center, Mrs Agnes Muhavani head of Planning & Advancement- CUEA, and Mr. Kakeeto Richard, Coordinator of CUEA Digital media Services, were among the CUEA faculty who participated in the program. The sessions were conducted by Mr. Pratapaditya Chakravarty ‘Paco’, Vice President- Global Training Institute, Wadhwani Foundation and Mr. Manasseh Miruka, Project Manager, NEN-Kenya, Wadhwani Foundation.
The 1st Master Trainer Programme culminated in a one-day intensive workshop training for high-potential students called E- Leaders. E-Leaders are the dynamic leaders of the Wadhwani e-cells. Twenty-five student leaders of the e-cells from various universities such as University of Nairobi, Kenyatta University, Mount Kenya University, Catholic University and Valley Business School attended the event. The students gained relevant skills and insights to help them transform their e-cells, network with other e-leaders, and engaged in experiential exercises intended to inspire teamwork and leadership. The workshop was extremely beneficial and inspired the e-leaders to promote entrepreneurship in their respective campuses.
WF-NEN’s rich, experiential content is designed to train and nurture educators in order to help them foster entrepreneurial thinking among aspiring student entrepreneurs. The immediate goal of National Entrepreneurship Network is to support student entrepreneurs through structured activities, workshops, events and online trainings via entrepreneurship clubs called e-cells. Ultimately, NEN aims to establish an entrepreneurial ecosystem which leverages a wide network of beneficiaries such as universities, educators, entrepreneurs, mentors, investors, among other strategic alliances. The partner ecosystem will help students turn their business ideas into reality and launch successful businesses. NEN has a global impact in helping create thousands of companies, for instance, Practo (www.practo.com) – one of the fastest growing healthcare companies in the world.
The Master Trainer programme was a follow up on a five-day Entrepreneurship Educators Program in which CUEA staff were oriented into the Entrepreneurship Pedagogy and Wadhwani Way of Entrepreneur Development. This took place from 22nd to 26thAugust 2017.

Libraries Category, in the Library of the Year Award, 2017 (Maktaba Award, 2017). The award Gala was held on Friday night, the 22nd September 2017 at the National Museums of Kenya.

In 2018, the Fellowship Program is focusing on: AI, blockchain, security, andquantum computing. Since the creation of the IBM PhD Fellowship Program in 1951, we have supported thousands of PhD Fellowship students -- with more than 700 students supported over the past 10 years alone.
We have made important changes to the program. The 2018 IBM PhD Fellowship includes:
In the US, fellowship recipients while in school will receive a stipend for living expenses, travel and to attend conferences ($35,000 for 2018-2019 and $35,000 for 2019-2020). US fellowship recipients will also receive $25,000 toward their education in 2018-2019.
Outside the US, fellowship recipients while in school will receive a competitive stipend for living expenses, travel and to attend conferences for the two academic years 2018-2019 and 2019-2020. Fellowship stipends vary by country.
Students must be approximately two years from receiving their PhD degree.
All IBM PhD Fellows are matched with an IBM Mentor according to their technical interests, and are encouraged to participate in an internship at least once while completing their studies. Students receiving a comparable fellowship from another company or institution during the same academic period are not eligible for an IBM PhD Fellowship. Students in Europe and Russia may accept government scholarships and remain eligible for the IBM PhD Fellowship.

AMAS-Academic Mobility for African Sustainable Development Intra-Africa Academic Mobility Scheme (AMAS) is a project destined to enhance exchange of knowledge to improve quality of learning, research and public service in Africa. Successful applicants get to enhance their knowledge and skills through mobility in select African universities while they pursue their Masters or Doctoral programmes in their respective universities.
The Partner Universities (PUs) in the AMAS project are: Moi University (MU), Kenya; Université Mohammed V de Rabat (UM5R), Morocco; Addis Ababa University (AAU), Ethiopia; Université d’Abomey-Calavi (UAC), Benin, and, Universidade Eduardo Mondlane (UEM), Mozambique. Universität Bayreuth (UBT), Germany, is the technical partner to the project (TP), while Moi University (MU) is the Leading Applicant.
The call is open to postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) in the pursuing social sciences and development related courses.
