Benson A. Mulemi is an Associate Professor of Anthropology and Senior Research Fellow in Social Sciences. He holds a PhD degree in Social Sciences, with a concentration in Medical Anthropology, from the University of Amsterdam (UvA) in the Netherlands. He trained within the Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research (AISSR), Amsterdam Institute for Metropolitan & International Development Studies (AMIDSt) and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, in the faculty of Social & Behavioural Sciences.
He was awarded the first Post-doctoral training fellowship by the British Academy of Humanities and Social Sciences, in 2011 Visiting Scholar and International Engagement Programme, at the Centre of African Studies (CAS) and Wolfson College; University of Cambridge, UK. His second Post-Doctoral Visiting Research Fellowship was supported by the A.G. Leventis Foundation, at the Centre of African Studies & Wolfson College, the University of Cambridge in 2014/15. He holds an MA degree in (Medical) Anthropology from the Institute of Anthropology, Gender &African; Studies, University of Nairobi, and a BA honours degree in Anthropology (Major) and Kiswahili Language (Minor) from the School of Social Sciences of Moi University, Kenya.
Prof Mulemi has served in various capacities, including the acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Research Innovation and Partnerships at CUEA. He also held the positions of Research Coordinator, and Acting Director at the Directorate of Research and Innovation in the Division of Research, Innovation and Partnerships at CUEA. He served as a visiting Senior Lecturer and Professor in the Masters of Medical Anthropology Programme at the Department of Mental Health, Faculty of Medicine in Gulu University, Uganda, since 2013/14, and Institute of Tropical Medicine & Infectious Diseases–Kenyatta University &Kenya; Medical Research Institute (KEMRI).
Prof. Mulemi has worked on several projects as a research fellow, peer reviewer and grant proposal evaluation expert, lecturer and supervisor at the CUEA, and a visiting lecturer at the Institute of Anthropology, Gender and African Studies; University of Nairobi.
