Rev. Dr. John Njue Mugo

He is a priest from the Catholic Diocese of Embu in Kenya, ordained on 22nd December 2000. His academic journey includes a B.A. in Philosophy (1992) and Sacred Theology (1997) from the Pontifical Urbaniana University in Rome. He holds a Licentiate in Sacred Theology with a specialization in Dogmatic Theology from the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome (2005), as well as a Sacred Doctorate focusing on Trinitarian Ontology from Sophia University Institute in Loppiano, Florence, Italy (2017).

Dr. Njue has dedicated most of his priestly career to formation and lecturing at major seminaries in Kenya. Currently, he serves as the Vice Rector of Blessed Bakanja AMECEA College and as a Lecturer in the Department of Dogmatic Theology at CUEA. He also contributes as a member of the editorial board of “Mwangaza,” a diocesan magazine for the Diocese of Embu, and acts as the Patron of the Blessed Bakanja College Magazine, “The Angelus.”

Dr. Njue recently participated in the 26th Theological Interdisciplinary Session held from 6th to 8th March 2024, organized by the Faculty of Theology at CUEA, where he presented a paper titled, “Laying the Ground for Theology of Inculturation in the Major Seminaries within the AMECEA Region.” Additionally, he chaired the Organizing Committee of the Theological “Festschrift” Conference honoring Rev. Dr. Frederick Wanjala, held by the Department of Dogmatic Theology on 30th April 2024 at the Jubilee Hall Auditorium – CUEA. At the conference, he presented a research paper titled, “Creating and Reawakening Interest in African Cultural Values in the Students of Theology in the Context of a Changing World,” and as chair of the committee, he will edit the forthcoming edition of the conference proceedings.

Dr. Njue has authored two articles: (a) “Forming Future Priests for Ministry as Service” in The Angelus, Silver Jubilee Edition, produced by the Bakanja Journalism Club in October 2023, and (b) “Synodality in the Magisterial Teaching of Vatican II and its Reception in Africa” in Researches and Documents No. 10, published by Opus Mariae (Focolare) Nairobi Centre of Inculturation, in May 2024.

His research interests encompass Ecclesiology, the Holy Trinity, Priestly Formation and Ministry, Ecumenism, and Interreligious Dialogue and Engagement.
