Dr. Noelina NAKATO – Senior Lecturer, Institute of Canon Law

World Champion in Ecumenism, 2019

Sr. Dr. Noelina Nakato is World’s Champion in Ecumenism, 2019. She is a Senior Lecturer in the Institute of Canon Law, at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa. She holds a doctorate in Canon Law. She has been a lecturer for 15 years. As a Canon Law expert, Sr. Nakato was Canon law Consultant in preparation of the Constitution for the Association of Consecrated Women in Eastern and Central Africa (ACWECA) Secretariat Nkoroi – Nairobi. She was appointed by as an Assistant Apostolic Visitator (2 years) by the Congregation of the Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, over the Missionary Religious Institute of the Apostles of Jesus. Sr. Nakato has been a Canon Law Consultant in the Chapter of Daughters of Mary and the brothers of Charles Lwanga – Masaka Uganda.

She has assisted the Good Shepherd Sisters to construct their constitutions. Sr. Dr. Nakato has facilitated seminars for various congregations on canonical issues related to religious life. She has participated in various seminars: The National Conference on Consecrated Life as a Reactor, held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, International Conference in Rome for Religious Women Canonists prepared by UISG at Nemi – Italy, the academic staff Training on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education at CUEA, and Training in Integrating Ethics in Higher Education, Transformation of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) to Achieve Global Competitiveness, Pan-African Catholic Congress on Theology, Society and Pastoral Life held at Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu from December 5- 8, 2019.  Sr. Dr. Nakato has published various articles of which one won the Champion in Ecumenism, 2019: “Beatification of Paul VI: An Impetus for the Church in Uganda to Deepen its Commitment to Unity” in International Journal of Philosophy and Theology Vol 2, No. 4 (Dec 2014) pp 177 – 191. Her areas of research interest are in the two books of the Canon Law:  Book 5 (Temporal Goods of the Church), and Book 3 (Teaching Office of the Church).
