DEPARTMENT OF SPIRITUAL THEOLOGY

Introduction

Spiritual Theology is a department in the Faculty of Theology, the Mother Faculty of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). The department has been in existence since the beginning of CUEA in 1984 which started as the Catholic Higher Institute of Eastern Africa (CHIEA) with an official approval by the Sacred Congregation for Catholic Education in 2000.

Vision of the Department

The department aims to promote a holistic spiritual study for Christians in the AMECEA Region and beyond. It trains personnel to become spiritual directors for seminaries and houses of formation, retreat masters, preachers of recollections, and chaplains in universities, colleges, secondary schools, prisons, and hospitals, fostering the integral growth of all the people of God.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to inspire the spiritual transformation of Christians in the AMECEA region and beyond by promoting a clear spiritual vision rooted in the living experience of Christians. This is guided by the principles of Christian spirituality: The Sacred Scriptures, the Sacred Tradition, and the experiences of saints and spiritual masters.

Aims
  • Promote Christian spiritual growth through prayer (Lectio Divina) and other spiritual exercises.
