I am pleased to welcome you to The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) School of Nursing. Thank you for choosing to be a nurse! We value our students who are a central part of our existence.  You will experience a holistic transformational education in nursing that will certainly expand your opportunities for professional and career development. We offer both direct entry and upgrading programmes in Nursing that are dynamic and responsive to the dynamic health needs of society. The school has qualified and committed faculty who work tirelessly to ensure students get the best learning experience in Nursing. We are committed to preparing clinically competent, caring nursing professionals who are ready for a life of service, continued learning, leadership and community service guided by Christian values. 

The BScN Programme is aimed at preparing nurses who are self-directing with appropriate knowledge, skills and values to provide leadership in Clinical Nursing Practice, Management, Education, Research and Community Service. The graduate should be able to function effectively in a variety of settings, preventing sickness, caring for the sick and assisting individuals, families and communities to promote and maintain their health in the most appropriate and affordable way. The School of Nursing offers students with endless professional and career opportunities. Graduates of the programme have great opportunities to study and work locally and abroad in developed countries such as the United States, Canada, the UK, and Australia. The BScN Programme is a 4-year programme as structured in the below table. It has seven semesters for classwork and five semesters for clinical placement.

Year of Establishment

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program was established in 2010 by the Assumption Sisters of Nairobi under the name “Regina Pacis University College (RPUC),” a Constituent College of The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA). In September 2016, the program was transferred to CUEA under the Faculty of Sciences. In January 2020, CUEA created the School of Nursing to house the nursing programs. The program is accredited by the Commission for University Education and regulated by the Nursing Council of Kenya.

Main Programs

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) offers two Nursing Programs:

  1. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Basic: A 4-year duration program.
  2. Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Upgrading: A 3-year duration program for professional advancement while providing service.

Both programs aim to prepare self-directing nurses with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to provide leadership in clinical nursing practice, education, research, and community service.

Key Achievements

Since its inception, the School of Nursing has trained and graduated over 270 students. These graduates have made significant contributions in their workplaces both locally and abroad (USA, Britain, among others). Many graduates have published their research findings in reputable journals. Additionally, during their training, they participated in various community service activities, providing holistic health services to individuals and families.

Uniqueness of the Program

The School offers a comprehensive Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) program that equips nurses with knowledge, skills, and competencies for clinical practice, education, research, and mid-level management in healthcare institutions. It fosters responsible professionalism through mentorship and role modeling. The program emphasizes innovative research to address current and evolving health challenges, enabling graduates to provide leadership in the healthcare system and meet the needs of the communities they serve.
