12th CPEIA Conference: Catholic Schools Rooted in Faith, Rising with Purpose

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa hosted the 12th Edition of the Catholic Private Educational Institution's Association (CAPEIA) Conference from April 7 to 10, 2026. The conference brought together educators, religious leaders, and stakeholders from Catholic educational institutions across Kenya to deliberate on the future of Catholic education in the country.

The conference was officially opened on Tuesday, April 7, by Rt. Rev. Henry Juma Odonya, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Kitale, on his maiden visit to the University. Bishop Odonya, who was installed as Bishop of Kitale in January 2023, delivered an inspiring keynote address emphasizing the critical role of Catholic institutions in shaping holistic education rooted in faith and moral values.

A representative of the Cabinet Secretary for Education also addressed the meeting, underscoring the government's commitment to supporting private education initiatives and the vital contribution of faith-based institutions to Kenya's education sector.

This year's conference was held under the theme: "Catholic Schools: Rooted in Faith, Rising with Purpose" , drawn from Jeremiah 29:11 — "I alone know the plans I have for you, plans to bring you prosperity and not disaster, plans to bring about the future you hope for." The theme encapsulated the conference's focus on strengthening the mission and identity of Catholic schools while embracing contemporary educational challenges and opportunities.

Delegates from Catholic primary schools, secondary schools, colleges, and universities participated in plenary sessions, workshops, and networking opportunities throughout the four-day conference at the University's Langata campus.
