CUEA Leadership Hosts AU Envoys Ahead of Nairobi Africa Day

This afternoon (Wednesday, March 18, 2026), the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) welcomed two distinguished ambassadors from the African Union (AU) Public Private Partnership (PPP) Summit — Amb. Dr. Yusuf Noah and Amb. Dr. Young Piero — in a courtesy call hosted by Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Justus M. Munyoki.

This meeting was significant not only for its diplomatic engagement but also for its inclusion of student voices, highlighting the university’s commitment to bridging campus leadership with continental policy. Joining the meeting were Student President Brian Kweyu and former President Frida Kemunto, both of whom emphasized the importance of student involvement in discussions that shape Africa’s future.

During the meeting, the delegation formally invited CUEA’s leadership to participate in Africa Day 2026, scheduled to take place from May 23rd to 25th in Nairobi. This three-day observance is being promoted as a diplomatic marquee event, expected to attract ministers from multiple African governments, ambassadors, lawmakers, business executives, and a high-profile diaspora contingent from regions including the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.

Amb. Piero, who chairs the AU PPP Summit, has established a reputation for facilitating public–private partnerships that focus on cross-border infrastructure and health initiatives. He positions himself as a vital link between state priorities and private capital. Meanwhile, Amb. Noah, who chairs the Kenya Chapter committee, shared that preparations for Africa Day are progressing "around the clock" in collaboration with government, private-sector, and AU partners.

He emphasized that student participation is not merely ceremonial; rather, it aims to engage young people directly with governance, fostering networks and creating pathways to opportunities that extend beyond the event itself.

University officials expressed their enthusiasm for the invitation, viewing it as an exceptional opportunity to connect research and youth leadership with Africa’s integration agenda. This aligns seamlessly with CUEA’s mission as the Church’s regional intellectual hub, reinforcing the university’s role in contributing to the continent’s development and unity.
