CUEA Board of Trustees Chair Challenges Principals to Embrace Authentic Leadership
The Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA), Most Rev. Anthony Muheria , has challenged Catholic school principals to embrace authentic, faith-based leadership and renew their commitment to the Gospel mission of Catholic education.
Addressing participants during the 11th Edition of the Catholic Schools Principals Association of Kenya (CaSPAK) Conference at CUEA on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, Archbishop Muheria urged education leaders to cultivate school environments where faith is nurtured, character is formed, and the example of Christ inspires leadership.
He called on principals to embrace leadership rooted in faith, service, and purpose, emphasizing that the mission of Catholic education extends beyond academic achievement to the holistic formation of young people who can become compassionate and responsible leaders in the Church and wider society.
Archbishop Muheria cautioned education leaders against measuring the success of Catholic schools solely through examination results, modern infrastructure, or other institutional achievements. He stressed that the deeper measure of success lies in the character, values, and faith formation of the young people entrusted to Catholic schools.
The three-day conference, held from August 4 to 6, 2026, brought together Catholic school principals from across Kenya to reflect on leadership, educational excellence, and the future of Catholic education in the country.
Archbishop Muheria's address came shortly after his reconfirmation as Chairperson of the CUEA Board of Trustees during the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly, held at CUEA from July 18 to 26, 2026.
His message reinforced the conference theme, "Catholic Schools: Rooted in Faith, Rising with Purpose," calling on school leaders to ensure that Catholic education remains firmly anchored in its Christian identity while preparing young people to respond effectively to the challenges of contemporary society.
The conference provided a platform for principals and education leaders to share experiences, reflect on emerging challenges, and strengthen their collective commitment to advancing the mission of Catholic education in Kenya.
