CUEA Blood Donation Drive Mobilises Community to Save Lives

By Rtn. Marcellus Otieno, PHF, Patron, Rotaract Club of CUEA

The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) continues to strengthen its commitment to community service and social responsibility through its semesterly blood donation drives, led by the Rotaract Club of CUEA. The October 2026 blood donation drive, held from 14–16 October, was organised in collaboration with Rotary Districts 9215 and 9216, Rotaract District 9212, and the Kenya National Tissue and Transplant Authority. The initiative has grown into one of CUEA’s flagship student-led community service projects, mobilising students, staff and other members of the University community to contribute approximately 250–300 pints of blood every semester towards the national blood supply. Beyond supporting patients in the wider community, the programme has also directly benefited CUEA students, staff and their relatives, who have accessed blood through the initiative without financial charges when the need arises. Promoting Service and Social Responsibility In addition to its life-saving impact, the blood donation programme provides students with a practical opportunity to engage in service-learning and volunteerism. Through their participation, students develop compassion, solidarity, ethical leadership and a stronger sense of responsibility towards society. The initiative reflects CUEA’s broader commitment to an education that extends beyond academic instruction to include service to humanity. By encouraging voluntary blood donation, the University community contributes to a life-saving cause while promoting a culture of giving and collective responsibility. Through the continued leadership of the Rotaract Club of CUEA and the generosity of students, staff and other participants, the University reaffirms the importance of community engagement in building a more caring and responsive society.
