CUEA Students Carwash Initiative in Support for Needy Peers

By Japheth Kipchirchir, Vice Chairperson, CUEASO

Students at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Gaba Campus are turning a simple campus activity into an act of solidarity through the Cardinal Otunga Carwash Fundrive Programme, which raises money to support students facing financial challenges.

Through the initiative, students wash cars on campus and channel the proceeds towards the Cardinal Otunga Scholarship Fund, which helps needy students meet their school fees and continue their education.

The programme reflects the spirit of service and collective responsibility within the CUEA community, with student volunteers contributing their time and effort to help fellow students overcome financial barriers to education.

This initiative is also running at the University’s Lang’ata Campus, where members of the campus community can support the cause by having their vehicles washed at KSh 500 (body wash only).

The Lang’ata Campus carwash drive is scheduled to run from October 27–30 and November 2–12, 2026, offering the university community an opportunity to contribute directly to the scholarship fund.

The fundraising activities will culminate in the annual Cardinal Otunga Scholarship Mass, Lecture and Fundraiser on November 12, 2026, at CUEA’s Lang’ata Campus.

Through the carwash initiative and the annual fundraising event, the University community is encouraged to support efforts that help students in financial need access education and remain on course towards completing their studies.

This initiative demonstrates how small acts of service, when combined through collective effort, can create meaningful opportunities and help build a more supportive university community.
