Meet Mwape Chewe, Gaba Campus’s New Assistant Editor

By Mwape Chewe, Assistant Editor, AMECEA Gaba Publications

Mwape Chewe is a multifaceted communication professional, researcher and media strategist joining the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) Gaba Campus as the new Assistant Editor for AMECEA Gaba Publications.

With an academic background that bridges critical philosophical inquiry, mass communication and high-level business administration, Mwape brings a strategic, digital-first vision to academic and institutional publishing.

His expertise is not confined to theoretical classrooms. It was forged through rigorous, hands-on experience in complex, high-stakes environments across East and Southern Africa.

From managing strategic communications and community outreach with international development leaders such as World Vision in Zambia, to shaping policy dialogue as a Research Officer at the Africa Strategic Research and AI Policy Centre, Mwape has repeatedly demonstrated an ability to translate raw field data into compelling, human-centred narratives.

He has managed multinational organisational frameworks, led high-profile public relations campaigns and navigated the nuanced realities of community engagement across Kenya and Zambia. In every role, his ethos has remained constant: “Every data point has a human story, and every scientific discovery deserves an unforgettable narrative.” It is this experience that he now brings to the editorial desk at Gaba Campus.

With hands-on experience spanning television production, radio broadcasting, field data collection and non-profit financial governance, his career is defined by a commitment to bridging the gap between rigorous academic research and accessible, impactful storytelling.

In his new role, he is dedicated to driving the strategic rebranding of Gaba Publications, modernising digital editorial workflows, mentoring student authors and emerging scholars, and maximising the real-world value of CUEA’s research and innovation ecosystem across Eastern Africa and beyond.

Academic publishing stands at a transformative crossroads. In an era of rapid digital acceleration, global connectivity and shifting paradigms in higher education, institutional journals and regional publications must evolve beyond traditional print boundaries. They must become dynamic, living platforms that amplify intellect, foster interdisciplinary dialogue and solve real-world community challenges.

It is against this backdrop that Mwape joins CUEA. Bringing a blend of academic rigour, strategic business acumen and broad media expertise, he takes up the position with a clear mission: to honour the rich theological and academic heritage of Gaba Publications while steering the office into a new age of digital visibility, scholar mentorship and regional editorial leadership. To the Zikomo team and the CUEA fraternity, he says:

“Knowledge becomes transformative only when it is effectively communicated and shared. At Gaba Campus, we sit atop a rich reservoir of intellectual, spiritual and social insight. My goal as Assistant Editor is to build bridges between complex research and readable insights, between student authors and international audiences, and between academic scholarship and real-world societal impact. I invite faculty members, seasoned scholars, postgraduate researchers and enthusiastic student writers to step forward, share their work and join us in shaping the narrative of higher education and development in Africa. My door is open, and the publication office is ready to help you turn your ideas into lasting published work.”

Whether you are a student with a groundbreaking paper waiting to be discovered, a faculty member aiming to amplify your latest study, or a reader eager for insightful campus commentary, the doors of the Gaba Campus Publication Office are wide open — ready to listen, collaborate, innovate and co-create a legacy of academic excellence.
