By Stephen Mbobu

The new CUEASO leaders were sworn in a solemn ceremony officiated by the University Legal officer, Immaculate Muthoni and the Electoral Commission Chairperson, Dr. Cliff Osoro on Friday, October 16, 2026. Prof. Justus Munyoki, the DVC Academic and Student Affairs represented the VC at the event. Prof. Munyoki congratulated the new CUEASO team and thanked the Electoral Commission for the fair, transparent and reliable election process. He challenged the leaders to remember that they will from today be leading their fellow students and they should be able to focus on that in collaboration with the University management and avoid pursuing personal interests. “The students and the University place a huge responsibility on you and a lot will be expected” the DVC noted. He promised the new leaders support from the University Management in leading the students to the next level of excellence. He urged them to learn from the outgoing team of leaders led by Mr. Brian Kweyu who in his own words; ‘did a splendid job’. Further, the DVC has celebrated the historical milestone of the election of the first student organization Chair from outside the host nation Kenya, saying that ‘CUEA has now shown a great mark of growth into an international University and a sign of marketability in the AMECEA region and beyond’. The new CUEASO Chair, Marko Kam Bajak, a Law student hails from South Sudan. CUEA has a greater international student body and the student executive team actually incorporates the position of International Students representative. Interestingly that position was also clinched by Mary Agout Deng, another student from South Sudan. Other leaders sworn in include; Japheth Kipchirchir (Vice-Chair), Jeremy Kalangi Otieno (Secretary General), Edna Mukiri Kimunu (Deputy Secretary General), Gregory Okoth Paul (Treasurer) and Faith Comfort Khalayi (Publicity Secretary). The CUEASO executive report to the Dean of Students and Mr. Samuel Wakanyua our Dean of Students was also at hand to usher in the new student leaders. He equally congratulated them and urged them to uphold the great responsibility with the respect and honour that it deserves. Also present was the Deputy Dean of students, Ms. Peris Sogoti and Mr. Evans Kiburio, the Gaba Student Affairs Coordinator, among other university officers. Rev. Dr. John Bosco Asiimwe, led prayers at the swearing in and declared blessings on the new leadership team on behalf of the University Chaplain.
